Discharged for murders; but back in court for Princess Casino robbery

Jamil Charles and Kevin France are familiar names. If you have been keeping up to date with the news you will know that these two men are former murder accused.

Jamil Charles

Charles, 29, of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara was charged with the March 10, 2015 murder of Agricola, East Bank Demerara shopkeeper Randy Persaud.
Based on reports, 27-year-old Persaud was gunned down while sitting in front of his home at Lot 83 Third Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara.
On the other hand, France of East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown was charged with the May 24, 2014 murder of Bharrat Ramcharran, a salesman attached to Patsan Trading Services.
According to reports, bandits on a CG motorcycle gunned down 57-year-old Ramcharran outside the business place, before escaping with a bag of money.
Ramcharran of Enterprise, East Coast Demerara was shot in the back after he threw a bag of money over the gate of the John Smith Street, Campbellville premises to prevent the bandits from making off with the cash.
However, both Charles and France had the murder charges against them discharged due to insufficient evidence against them after the conclusion of preliminary inquiries in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
But Charles was brought back to court last month charged with robbery under-arms in connection with a $9M robbery which occurred at the Princess Ramada Casino, Providence, East Bank Demerara on April 29, 2016.
Wayne Griffith, 29 of Bagotville, West Bank Demerara; Junior Stuart, 30, of 141 Thomas Street, Kitty, Georgetown and Andre Blackman, 35, of 6 Middle Street, McDoom, East Bank Demerara, were all previously charged in connection with the Princess Ramada Casino robbery.
The trio is currently out on bail.

Kevin France

According to reports, gunmen entered the casino and discharged several rounds. They allegedly relieved a security guard of his shotgun and ordered patrons and staffers to lie on the ground.
It was reported that the armed men also held a cashier at gunpoint and made off with a quantity of local and foreign currency.
Another new charge that Charles is facing alleges that on August 12, 2016, at Lot 33 Robb Street, Orange Walk, Bourda, while armed with a gun, he robbed a woman of $900,000 and a Bank of Guyana cheque, which were the property of Sudesh Persaud.
The former murder accused who is said to have confessed to the latter robbery under arms charge was remanded to prison on both charges and will make another court appearance on May 15.
Meanwhile, France was brought back to court in February and slapped with an attempted murder charge over allegedly shooting a security guard after a robbery at the Electronic City store in the Fogarty’s building situated on Water Street, Georgetown.
It is alleged that on October 28, 2016, at Water Street, Georgetown, France unlawfully and maliciously wounded Quacy Joseph, with intent to murder him.
According to reports, Joseph was an on-duty security guard at Fogarty’s building, Water Street, Georgetown, when he was shot by a fleeing bandit.
Further, it is also alleged that on October 12, 2016 at Church Street, Georgetown, while in the company of others and armed with a gun; he robbed Bibi Jahbar of $6,000 cash.
France is also accused of robbing Roopnarine Budhoo of $800,000 while he was armed with a gun and in the company of others on October 1, 2016, at Robb and Alexander Streets, Georgetown.
France who is out on bail in respect to all the charges is jointly charged along with 21-year-old Jason Howard of East La Penitence, Georgetown for the three offences.
Howard and three other men are currently on remand for the murders of Mohamed Munir and his wife Bibi Jamila Munir, the rice farming couple burnt to death in their Good Hope, East Bank Essequibo home on April 17, 2016 by bandits.
