Transport Sports Club (TSC) defeated Demerara Cricket Club by 10 runs to win the final of the Georgetown Cricket Association New Building Society second division 40-over tournament which was played on Saturday at Bourda.
Despite having to contend with limited practice sessions at neighbouring grounds due to the absence an adequate facility for 12 years at their Thomas Lands venue, even though calls were made in the media to upgrade the ground, TSC have been one of the most consistent teams in Georgetown. And Saturday’s performance only underlined their players’ commitment to the game.
Batting first, TSC posted 182 all out. Oslyn Batson scored 42 while Rafeal Singh made 41 and Adrian Hinds 26. Dennis Squires claimed 3-15, while Lyndon Lyght had 3-47 and Carlton Jacques 2-28. DCC made 172 all out in 36.1 overs in reply.
Dexter George hit 42, while Jacques made 28 and Lyght 12.
Rafael Singh was once again his side’s most instrumental player in the final. His 41 runs and bowling figures of 2-27 from his quota of eight overs earned him the man-of-the match award. Singh who was named man-of-the-match, Shawn Massiah and Charwayne McPherson picked up two wickets each.
Awards were given to ; Azeem Azeez (TSC) zone stage best bowling figures 8-26 against University of Guyana; Dwain Dick bowler with most wickets in the zone stage with 17 wkts at 7.8 RPW (Stefan Wilson of GCC also took 17 wickets) Shaheed Mohamed (Everest) batsman with the highest score 131 versus Sophia; Best fielder Chemroy Kendall (TSC) 8 dismissals (6 catches, 2 stumpings); Shaheed Mohammed (Everest) MVP Zone A 309 runs and 11 wickets; Zone B Timothy McAlmont (GCC) 221 and seven catches; Oslyn Batson batsman with the highest score in the final; Dennis Squires best bowling performance in the final; Cowen Ismond best fielder in the final (2 catches); Rafael Singh man-of-the match in the final.
