May 5 has been set for the commencement of a preliminary inquiry into the murder of Ryan
Sergeant who was gunned down in front of the Rio Night Club last year September.
Lloyd Roberts, also known as ‘Robbie’ of North Ruimveldt, is currently on remand for the capital offence. The date was set yesterday by City Magistrate Judy Latchman after the matter was transferred to her court by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for fixture.
Sergeant of Festival City, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was shot dead while his friend Jeffrey Ferrel was injured. The shooting incident reportedly stemmed from an argument between a group of young men outside the aforementioned night club on September 26, 2016 at Oronoque and Forshaw Streets, Queenstown, Georgetown.
While outside, an individual whipped out a gun and shot at Sergeant and his friends.
It was while Sergeant and a friend were running to his vehicle that he was hit by a bullet.
In January, Roberts was among three men who were remanded to prison over an AK-47 rifle find at a home in Campbellville, Georgetown.
Teon Alleyne, 30, of Soesdyke/Linden Highway and Andre Pollydore, 24, of South Ruimveldt Georgetown have since been released on bail. The trio was slapped with four charges each-two for possession of illegal firearms and two for illegal possession of ammunition. The court heard that on January 22 at 81 John Street Campbellville, Georgetown, the men had in their possession two weapons – one being an AK-47 rifle and one 9mm pistol – without being holders of firearm licence. It is also alleged that on the same day, the men had in their possession 60 rounds of 7.62 by 39 ammunition and 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition while they were not owners of firearm licence.
According to reports, police acting on information swooped down on the home and conducted a search during which they found the illegal items along with several cellular phones.
In February 2010, Roberts was freed of the murder of Romeo De Agrella and his son Clint De Agrella after a murder charge against him was discharged by Magistrate Alan Wilson. They were killed at Iron Punt, North West District.
