The battle for regional Junior and cadet table tennis honours and qualification for the 2nd Pan American Junior and cadet championships has heightened with the arrival of ten (10) teams to participate in the 2017 Caribbean Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships scheduled for today to Tuesday at the Cliff Anderson Sports hall
The ten teams from the region have arrived in Guyana to participate in the prestigious championships which includes; Jamaica, Barbados Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Cuba, Aruba, St Vincent, Dominican Republic St. Lucia and host Guyana which will see approximately 135 youth athletes from the region join in healthy competition and camaraderie, in a showcase of table tennis talent and expertise.
The games which will commence with action in the team events today with three sessions scheduled from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm 2 pm to 4.30 and 5.30 to 8.30 pm daily.
The competition will be used as the qualification event for the 2nd Pan American Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships scheduled for the Argentina in July of 2017. This competition will be used to select the top four teams from the Caribbean who will join the top four (4) from Central American and the top four (4) teams from South America qualify for the Pan Am event, with the qualification event being a compulsory event, all the top teams from the region have definitely come to battle for their qualification spot and to participate.
The categories to be contested are: Boys and girls 18 and 15 years and under – Teams, Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Singles, and Girls–Team’s, Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Singles, in the respective age groups.
The competition will commence with team events today and tomorrow, Doubles and Mix doubles on Sunday and singles action on Monday17th and Tuesday18th April.
According to the GTTA, Guyana’s charge will be lead in the under 18 Boys A team of Miguel Wong Elishaba Johnson, Kyle Edghill and Nickolus Romain with Guyana Boys B team coming from Tyriq saunders, Vishan Harrynauth , Vishan Deo , Krystian Sahadeo , Dhanesh Persaud, Colin Wong.
Girls 15 years and under Neveah Clarkston, Abigale Martin Selenas Jackman, Thuria Thomas.
Girls 18 years and under Priscillia Greaves Jamaali Homer Aneka Philips and Davona Best and Tershata.
Boys 15 years and under where a nucleus of talent abounds will see Jamal Nicholas, Kaysan Ninvalle, Terrence Rausche and Yeudistir Persaud forming Guyana 15 A and Niron Bissu, Isaiah Layne, Brandon Jaikarran and Navindra Persaud.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow.
