This Sunday’s Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) ‘National Race of Champions’ Meet, yesterday received an additional boost with the confirmation of father and son duo of Kevin and Kristian Jeffrey.
The two outstanding racers presence alone will certainly ignite interest in the event, while also erasing the previous uncertainty of their participation following the announcement of their participation by Kevin via telephone.
The younger Jeffrey, Kristian is a huge crowd favourite who has developed into one of the most exciting drivers of his generation in the Caribbean.
The two-time Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) champion has transferred his success to the local arting Series and the Suzuki Challenge Series SR3 Winter Cup, being crowned champion in both events so he is in good form and should be rearing to get into action in front of the large fan base that he has.
Both Kevin and Kristian are assuring fans that despite the close biological connections, they will race hard against each other and any other competition that takes to the starting grid.
When quizzed about preparations, Kevin said they are currently working overtime on the cars and guaranteed that they will be ready come Sunday to entertain the fans.
Kristian, drives a Mitsubishi Evolution VIII, which had dominated the Region for over two years, before relinquishing the crown to Jamaican Doug Gore last year, and he will be looking to send a strong message to his Caribbean rivals ahead of the season opening Meet in Jamaica.
However, Kevin has been known to produce some daredevil drives and counting him out might be a bit premature and reckless.
Kevin drives a Mitsubishi Evolution VII, but is known to have done some amount of modification to the machine to increase its speed and reliability to compete against the best in the Caribbean so it will be interesting to see how their duel unfolds.
Whatever the outcome, fans will be in for a treat so be early and occupy an advantageous spot to witness the rivalry first hand.
