Jan 17, 2017 Letters
Dear Editor,
I must express my outrage and disgust at a letter captioned, “My experience working at the Ministry of Finance”, which was written by Joe Persaud, and appeared in Kaieteur News, Sunday January 15, 2017. In particular, I found offensive his statement that he reported me, among several others, to Dr Jagan “for having no respect of (sic) “Value for money.”” He further goes on to state that Dr Jagan was going to confront them all but that Janet Jagan did not want Jagdeo fired.
Editor, I state categorically that I do not know Joe Persaud. I never met the individual, and we never worked together at the Ministry of Finance or anywhere else for that matter. I made checks of the Ministry’s employee records, dating back to 1992 and found no one by the name of Joe Persaud. However, an employee of the Ministry recalled that there was a Joe Persaud who was the Project Coordinator of the Primary Education Improvement Project, which was financed by the Inter-American Development Bank. Apparently, his contract was terminated, which left a bitter taste and created his animus with the previous government.
Editor, I value my professionalism and integrity highly. I have a stellar record of working in the Ministry of Finance with various governments. Indeed, anyone who knows me even fleetingly will tell you how much I value taxpayers’ money. It pains me, therefore, that your newspaper can knowingly carry letters such as this that seek only to tarnish people’s reputation, image, integrity and professionalism. It is worse when the individual being tarred is a serving Minister of government.
The imputations in Joe Persaud’s letter were serious enough to warrant frantic calls from my friends and well wishers to seek clarity and explanation. I call upon you, Mr Editor, to apologise for the imputations in Joe Persaud’s letter as they relate to me. Your failure to do so will cause me to exercise all available options to ensure that my name is freed of the muck over which it has been raked.
Hon. Winston Jordan
Minister of Finance
Editor’s note: We apologize to Minister Jordan. We can assure him there was no intention to doubt his professionalism as a career public servant
