(Kaieteur News) – Three persons lost their lives in separate road accidents over the past week, while another motorcyclist remains hospitalised, as police continue investigations into fatal collisions in Georgetown and on the West Coast Demerara.
The latest tragedy occurred just after 3:00 a.m. Sunday at the junction of Camp and New Market streets, Georgetown, where 39-year-old Gladwin Dorway of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, was killed in a three-vehicle collision.
Police said a 28-year-old woman of South Cummingsburg, who was driving motor car PNN 832, allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign on New Market Street before entering the Camp Street intersection. Her vehicle reportedly collided with one motorcycle before a second motorcycle, ridden by Dorway, slammed into the car.
Both motorcyclists were thrown onto the roadway. Dorway was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, while the other rider, a 27-year-old man of Sparendaam, remains hospitalised.
The female driver is in police custody. A breathalyser test recorded readings of 0.25 and 0.21 micrograms, while investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
Just hours earlier, another fatal accident occurred on De Kinderen Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
Police said 36-year-old Kempton Forrester of De Kinderen Housing Scheme was struck by a car as he attempted to cross the roadway from south to north. The vehicle, driven by a 20-year-old man of Boeraserie, was reportedly exiting a supermarket parking lot when the collision occurred.
Forrester suffered severe head and body injuries and was taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.
Police said CCTV cameras in the area will be examined. The driver passed a breathalyser test, recording six micrograms on both readings.
Meanwhile, police are also continuing investigations into the death of 38-year-old Kevin London of Guyhoc Park Gardens, who succumbed to injuries three days after a collision at the intersection of Macaw Road and Lamaha Street.
The crash occurred around 5:00 a.m. on July 4 and involved London’s vehicle and another driven by a 27-year-old police corporal from Rosignol, West Coast Berbice.
Investigators said both vehicles entered the intersection and allegedly failed to stop before colliding.
London was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation but died on July 7.
The police corporal, who tested negative for alcohol, has been placed under close arrest. CCTV footage from the intersection has already been reviewed.
Police said investigations into all three fatal accidents are continuing as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding each collision.
