After flight delays and cancellations affected hundreds of passengers at both the John F Kennedy and Cheddi Jagan International Airports over the last weekend, the operations of Dynamic Airways in Guyana will be reviewed.
This was according to the Director-General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCCA), Colonel (Retired), Egbert Field, during a media engagement at the Authority’s Headquarters in Kingston, Georgetown yesterday.
The Director-General said that the GCCA is currently awaiting a report from the airline which will determine the way forward.
During a recent press briefing hosted by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Roraima Airways,– “the face of Dynamic Airways” – Captain Gerry Gouveia, had stated that that one of Dynamic Airways’ aircrafts was damaged at the John F Kennedy International Airport in New York, United States after a ground-handling truck reportedly ran into the engine casing while the other aircraft, developed mechanical problems from a defective flap.
The GCCA Head said that the Authority will be conducting the review with an aim to ensuring that the inconvenience does not reoccur – especially during the holiday season.
This publication previously reported that the setback saw angry passengers taking to social media to vent their frustration whilst many here at home, sought intervention from media outlets after claims of calls to Dynamic went unanswered.
The frustration intensified after the airlines’ representatives on the ground were reportedly unwilling to provide information to the stranded.
“We are extremely sorry and apologise to the passengers for the delay and the cancellations. Both Dynamic Airways and Roraima Airways are committed to safety and we could not fly that aircraft until it was cleared by the maintenance team,” Captain Gouveia was quoted by this publication as saying.
Caribbean Airlines, Fly Jamaica incident still being investigated
Meanwhile, investigations are still on-going into the accident at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport where an incoming Caribbean Airlines aircraft had reportedly clipped the tail of a parked aircraft belonging to the Fly Jamaica fleet.
The GCAA Director-General said that matter is still being investigated by the Accident Investigation Group and a report “ought to be submitted” to the Junior Public Infrastructure Minister, Annette Ferguson.
Caribbean Airlines, back in November, had issued a statement saying that one of its planes, a Boeing 737-800 aircraft operating as BW 527, from JFK International, New York to CJIA, Guyana, was involved in an incident on the ramp. Preliminary investigations revealed that the Fly Jamaica Airways’ B767-300 was struck by the wing tip of the taxiing Caribbean Airlines aircraft.
