Kevin France, a 51-year-old self-employed resident of lot 55 Palmyra Village was yesterday caught with an unlicensed 9 mm pistol. It was approximately 01:00 hrs.
According to police sources, ranks of the Police Mobile Patrol who were in the West Canje area and acting on information signaled motor vehicle, bearing license plate number PVV 2423, to stop in the vicinity of Vryheid Road, West Canje, Berbice.
However, the driver sped away from the authorities giving rise to a high speed chase along the New Amsterdam public road. The patrol eventually caught up with France at his Palmyra residence while he was about to exit the vehicle.
The ranks of the mobile patrol subsequently subjected France to a search and discovered a 9mm pistol with several matching rounds in the front section of his car.
The firearm was seized whilst the car with France was escorted to the Central Police Station, New Amsterdam, where he is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
The car was lodged along with the firearm. Charges are expected to be laid shortly.
