Dear Editor,
I read with disbelief about the CJIA Contractor’s purchase of stone, in neighbouring Suriname. We cannot even supply local stone? This country is in a downward economic spiral and contracts of this nature are badly needed to reverse this. Why can’t the Guyanese people and its companies get any economic benefits from the Chinese companies? One only has to think about the Marriott Hotel, Bai Shai Lin trucking
contracts and numerous instances where the Chinese shut out Guyanese. Is there some reason why they would do business in neighbouring Suriname maybe quid pro quo?
I cannot see how Suriname would be cheaper given transportation costs and the remoteness of their quarries? Our quarries produce an equivalent if not better product and employ thousands of people, directly and indirectly. The Government of Guyana needs to put the Guyanese people and companies first, if not, the grand 50th Anniversary celebrations, this year, would have been a big farce

(Kaieteur News) – The PPP Gov’t will give an arm and a leg to get the MV Barima off the front-pages.
