a real boost should Canadian Superbike racer Kevin Graham confirm his participation for the upcoming event scheduled to be staged here in Guyana, at the South Dakota Circuit.
Graham, who was a starter at the recently held penultimate leg of the Series at Bushy Park in Barbados, is being courted by the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC), host of the CMRC to make his presence at the Meet and the early signs are that he will be coming.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport last week, President of the GMR&SC Raj Boodhoo confirmed that they are currently working to get the Canadian maestro to come to Guyana to thrill the fans.
Graham, who used to be a regular fixture at Meets here in Guyana, is credited for the resurgence of Superbike racing here, while also having to take some credit for the outstanding career of Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’, someone who had benefitted a lot from the skills of the Canadian.
The easy going Canadian had done a lot for a number of Guyanese riders, teaching them the art of the sport which was evidently done for the love of the sport and perhaps payback for the affection he received over the years.
Graham came at a time when Superbike racing was in a depressive state and with the support of the Administration at the time along with that of the corporate community, instigated a resurgence that has lasted until now.
Many local fans loved to see him race and display his skills on the bike and while he is not in contention for the regional title, his mere presence on the track is something that they will truly embrace.
Young riders such as Elliott and Matthew Vieira, who many believe will soon take over the mantle from Stephen, are still in their maturation period and they could use his presence as an opportunity to learn even more.
They are the future of the sport and whatever they can glean from the experience Graham could serve as a plus for their respective careers.
