Approximately 80 young persons have benefitted from the annual youth summer camp hosted by the Ministry of Education-Department of Youth, Culture and Sport and the Enterprise Youth Development Group, (EYDG).
The five-day activity was held between on August 22 -26, 2016.
Participants explored and benefited from activities, including visual arts, craft, physical recreation and sports coaching in various areas such as football and cricket, in addition to interactive discussions on social and health issues.
Key activities of the camp included discipline & road safety talks, entrepreneurial talks, Science Technology Economics and Mathematics (STEM) presentations, career guidance, suicide prevention and “environmental gyaff.”
Speaking about the summer camp which ended in a massive graduation exercise at the Enterprise Primary School on August 26, President of the (EYDG) Samantha Sheoprashad noted that “the team to led a wonderful programme toward moulding the lives of young people in the Enterprise community.
Sheoprashad said that every moment was filled with enthusiasm, energy and excitement.
“We gave the campers an exercise to come up with their own innovation of a smiley stick. We saw all form of smiles which is something critical. We certainly know that there is an innovative side in everyone, “she explained
During the Youth Camp 2016, the EYDG President noted too that entrepreneurial talks at a very basic level were conducted. She explained that the basic knowledge of entrepreneurial skills and teaching on innovative and creative businesses was delivered.
“We are looking to explore option for effective usage of computers establishing a lab to teach them programming and robotics so that they can develop and one day create employment.”
Miss Universe Guyana 2016 contestants Soyini Fraser, Rafieya Zara Husain, Odessa Alana Grogan, Xamiera Kippins, Malika Russell also participated in the event.
The delegates shared information on the basis of their respective platforms, which included Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, and Woman in Agriculture, Self Love and Peer Pressure.
At the end of the programme, 230 backpacks bags complete with school supplies were distributed to the youths of Enterprise and a neighbouring village. The items were donated by the Enterprise Sport Club (Cricket Team) from New York.
The Enterprise Youth Development Group is a registered youth organization under the Culture, Youth and Sport President’s Youth Award initiative, the Volunteer Support Platform (VSP) and the Guyana National Youth Council (GYNC).
The organization was established approximately three years by a group of young and vibrant individuals who had a desire to empower and facilitate growth for young people of the village.
The group has 200 members who continue to benefit from various programmes being implemented within the community.
