– mother, sister and reputed wife detained
Police have detained the mother, sister and reputed wife of a 30-year-old Better Success man who was stabbed to death during a family row yesterday.
Maxton Lawrie, the victim, sustained several stab wounds shortly after midnight and was pronounced dead at the Suddie Public Hospital.
Laurie reportedly met his demise after being involved in an argument with his sister at the family’s home.
Family members claimed that they are unable to say exactly what transpired between the brother and sister.
The slain man’s reputed wife, who is six months pregnant, claimed that Lawrie returned home in a drunken state between midnight and 01.00 hrs yesterday. He then threw down a keyboard after she refused to sleep with him.
The sound awoke Lawrie’s sister, and the siblings began to argue which led to them fighting. Their parents attempted to subdue Lawrie, who threw a clothes basket downstairs.
The reputed wife said the man’s relatives were cautioning her to remove from the scene since they feared that Lawrie might hit her. “I went downstairs and removed the cutlass and knife and the sharp objects.”
The reputed wife said that when the commotion ended she saw her spouse, who was covered in blood, lying motionless.
He was pronounced dead by doctors at the Suddie Hospital.
