The 3-kilometre alternative access road to Parfaite Harmonie which cost $605M and was touted to last for some 20 years is deteriorating rapidly. The highway was opened to vehicular traffic on September 6, 2014.
According to a plaque at the eastern end of the thoroughfare, it was commissioned by the Former President of Guyana, Donald Ramotar and Former Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali.
According to reports, the road was constructed by Gaico Construction and General Services and BK International.
The General Manager of Gaico Construction and General Services, Komal Singh, had told this publication that the Highway was built to last for some two decades. However, during a visit yesterday, several potholes were seen in areas along the highway which is a hazard to vehicle operators and commuters. Some “patch work” was also done previously to several sections.
