The race was reduced to 35-miles owing to the ongoing road works which resulted in all 45-riders turning back at Uitvlugt on the West Demerara after pedaling off from the Wales Police Station and proceeding into Parfait Harmonie before coming out back on to the public road and returning to finish at the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
Anthony won a classic sprint from reigning 2016 National Road Race champion Geron Williams to win in 1h 20m 48.63s. Hamza Eastman, Raul Leal, last year’s winner Shaquille Agard and Stephano Husbands closed out the top six finishers in that order.
Linden’s Jornel Yearwood was the top junior relegating last year’s winner Andrew Hicks to the 3rd place, second was taken by Nigel Duguid.
Guyana Cycling Federation Vice President Paul Choo-Wee-Nam was the top veteran, Jaikarran Sukhai and 2016 National Road Race champ Raymond Newton copped 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Keon Thomas was king of the mountain bike category as there were new winners in each category this year. Seon Budhan and Talim Shaw followed Thomas in that order to the line.
Alanzo Ambrose won two of the 8 sprint prizes on offer with one each to Orville Hinds, Paul De Nobrega, Jamal John, Hicks and Husbands.
The top three riders in each category were presented with Seven Seas products compliments of the sponsors. Seven Seas Pharmaceutical Specialist Ms Karen Cornell in brief remarks prior to the presentation thanked all the riders for making the event possible noting that her company was pleased to be partnering with Organiser Hassan Mohamed once again.
She encouraged the cyclists to keep working hard whilst supporting the Seven Seas line of Products as well as the Dr Chase line. Mohamed also expressed gratitude to the riders for coming out despite the rain.
