Performing on a stage for singer Shellon Gallay, comes easy, it is something that has “grown” on her.
Considering that she started out since she was thirteen years old, that adds up to a whole lot of growth!
This beautiful, talented, Canvas City, Wismar lass, is well known to her fans as “Fluffy”, a name that she gave herself, because of her ample proportions.
But ‘Fluffy’ is not just well known for her beautiful voice, or her fluffiness-so don’t let the name fool you, because this young woman’s dexterity on the dance floor or stage would put many of her slimmer counterparts to shame.
Fluffy is very comfortable in her skin- so comfortable in fact, that she has released a song that embraces plus sized women.
A former student of the Wismar/Christianburg Secondary School, Fluffy said that she started out singing in school by entering a calypso competition for secondary schools, when she was thirteen years old.
It was the beginning of bigger and better things for this charming and confident young woman.
“I didn’t even know I coulda sing-but a teacher encouraged me to enter so I entered the competition, and our school won. So I said wow- I can sing “
That small win would lend a whole lot of confidence to this hard working performer, who would go on to enter many more competitions, including the popular GT&T Jingle and song competition.
She however did not make it to the finals. But Fluffy says she does not regret.
“I didn’t make it to the finals but I didn’t mind at all, because I learnt so much, and I made quite a few friends. So for me it was a good experience that I would always cherish. I would always be thankful to GT&T- the experience was awesome! “
Since then Fluffy, has recorded four songs, including her latest, the “Jubilee” song. Unfortunately however, the song was not released in time for our fiftieth anniversary celebrations.
Fluffy says she doesn’t mind though, as it is a song that is relevant for any type of patriotic celebration.
Here is an artiste that is comfortable performing any genre of music, but her favorite of course, is dancehall.
Which is not at all surprising, as this particular genre, provides her ample opportunity to exhibit her repertoire of dance moves. She has been recording for three years now.
Her ultimate dream she says, is to earn enough which would enable her to establish a place where young people especially, could go and have good clean fun.
Fluffy confesses that that though the music industry is “not easy”, she intends to forge ahead to establish herself as a renowned artiste and performer.
She is presently engaged to her producer /Fiance Ossie Hopkinson, also known as‘Spider’.
No doubt this talented young woman has only just begun on her journey to success. (Enid Joaquin)
