Stag / WDFA Senior League…Beavers edge Den Amstel; Wales hold Pouderoyen
The less accomplished teams have sounded a stern warning to the usual top teams that it would not be business as usual when the 2016 Stag Beer sponsored West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) Senior League kicked off at the Mecca of the sport on the West Side, Den Amstel Community Center ground on Sunday last.

Contesting the feature match, home team Den Amstel after taking the lead against Beavers FC were defeated after Beavers fired in two second half goals to become the first team to register a win.
Led by former national player Anthony Harding with the winning goal in the 75th minute, Beavers had canceled out Den Amstel’s early advantage when Glenroy Semple netted in the first minute of the second half.
Den Amstel had taken control of the first with the only goal scored off the boot of Kevaughn Ward in the 22nd minute. The home team could not replicate their first half performance as Beavers played a much more organised game in taking charge and now head the points table.
The opening game of the league saw another West Dem. powerhouse team, Pouderoyen drawing first blood after a goalless first half. Three minutes into the final 45 minutes, Quesey Alleyne found the back of the Wales nets much to the delight of his teammates.
But their celebrations were not going to be for too long since Wales United had other ideas and were bent on having an equal share of the points.

Sixty-two minutes into the match, Wales got the equaliser from Lawrence Phillips to commence their quest for top honours on a positive note. The result can only give them the necessary confidence going forward.
Matches will continue this Saturday and Sunday at the same venue. On Saturday from 13:30hrs, Young Achievers will play Vegae Boys followed by Stewartville opposing Golden Warriors.
Sunday’s double header will feature Eagles against Jetty Gunners in the early match at 13:30hrs with the main attraction between Uitvlugt Warriors and Beavers.
