With his cousins Elloitt and Matthew Vieira holding the Caribbean and local
crowns respectively, many feel that the stranglehold that Superbike star Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira once had on the division came to an end in 2015 and it would take nothing short of a herculean effort for him to regain his iron grip.
However, speaking with this newspaper yesterday via telephone, the former Caribbean king said he was determined to regain his dominance at the upcoming Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) National ‘Race of Champions’ Meet set for March 20, at the South Dakota Circuit.
Vieira has confirmed his participation in the Meet and with the event being used to select the national team to represent Guyana at the upcoming opening leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship in Jamaica; it means that apart from the urgency to recapture the aura of being the top racer in the Superbike division, there is also the incentive to qualify for the Guyana team.
The local speedster who rides a Suziki GSXR 600cc machine currently holds the lap record at the Jamaica track said he is busy plotting revenge against the young brigade and according to him his campaign to topple them will start later this month.
Vieira, who has the existing records on most of the Circuits that the CMRC is staged, is undoubtedly the most recognizable rider from Guyana. He said it is important that he starts the season on a positive note and his first aim will be to dominate the local Meet, before going on to Jamaica and the other circuits that host the CMRC.
“I know the younger brigade that includes Elliott and Matthew and a few others will no doubt be ready to battle me for individual supremacy, but I can assure my fans that I will be ready to retake what is rightfully mine.”
He urged fans to come out and witness the spectacle that is expected to feature him against the best young riders in the region.
