Kaieteur Sports – Contrasting wins for the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and GYO Mystic Marvels headlined the latest round of 2nd Division action this past weekend across the city.
In a lopsided affair, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) handed the University of Guyana (UG) an 8-wicket defeat, after knocking over their opponents for a paltry 32 all out inside 13 overs; before racing to 36-2 in 6 overs.
Only Yeshua Hutson (10) got into double figures for UG, as the duo of spinner Nigel Deodat, who bagged 4 wickets and Shamal Angel, who claimed 3 wickets, stole the show to help set up an easy win.
In the other match, the home team GNIC, suffered a 16 run loss at the hands of GYO Mystic Marvels who were bowled out for 134 in 16.1 overs with Dequan Wray (28) and Kevon Hooper (25) leading the batting.
It was a collective effort from the GNIC bowling attack which saw 3 wickets apiece coming from Chandrika Persaud, David Dick and Jamain Grosvenor.
However, GNIC could only muster 118 in the 20th over with Persaud returning to hit 5 fours in his top scores of 27, while Grosvenor also chipped in with 18.
Mystic Marvel bowling was led by Amir Khan who returned 4-20.
