Ithaca Hardliners made full use of home court advantage as they fought hard for a come from behind upset win against top team New Amsterdam Warriors when play in the Third Edition of the annual Anamayah

Action in the Ithaca Hardliners versus New Amsterdam Warriors clash in the Anamayah Memorial Basketball competition last Sunday.
Memorial Basketball competition continue on Sunday last at the Ithaca basketball court, West Bank Berbice.
In a hard fought encounter, the New Amsterdam Warriors started quickly as if out to war, but the Hardliners kept bouncing back as they closed the gap to end the first segment 9-7.
The Warriors upped their game in the second segment and were able to out play their opponents to lead 20-14 at the half time mark.
With the much needed half time rest and home crowd support behind them the Hardliners began to fight back and were able to close the gap to trail by two points 43-41 at the third segment.
The final quarter saw the Hardliners forge forward to take the lead for the first time with better coordination and frequent raids as they squeezed home 50-48.
The Hardliners fight back was led by Kevin Perry with 16, Kester Sinclair 14 and Phillip Edwards 9.
For the Warriors Kevin Thom led their effort with 16 baskets as Quesy Mickle netted 14 and Shamar Murray 7.
The competition is set to continue tomorrow with Rose Hall Town taking on RHT Jammers from 16:00 hrs at the Rose Hall Town Court.
The tournament is being played on a round robin basis with the top two teams in each group advancing to the semifinal round. The teams scheduled to play in the eight team competition are -Group ‘A’: Rose Hall Town Jammers, Fyrish Black Sharks, East Canje Knights and Rose Hall Town.
Group ‘B’ has New Amsterdam Warriors, Smithfield Rockers, Ithaca Hardliners and Hopetown Stealers.
At stake in the competition are cash and other incentives for the winning and runner-up teams and outstanding players.
The competition is expected to continue on Sunday when Ithaca Hardliners and Hopetown Stealers clash at the Ithaca basketball court, West Bank Berbice.
The tournament is being organised by sport enthusiast Vibert Garnett. Jammers are the defending champions. (Samuel Whyte)
