Guyana’s multitalented sporting ambassador, Hamza Eastman, copped silver at the recently concluded

15th Barbados International Judo tournament which was held at the Sir Garfield Sobers Gym, (December 3-7). Eastman, also a cyclist, competed in the 73kg weight category with athletes from the USA, Barbados, Curacao, Guadeloupe and Trinidad and Tobago.
President of the Guyana Judo Association Raoul Archer who served as coach on the trip said he is proud of Eastman’s achievement. He stated that much work needs to be done if Guyana is to win gold medals, but added that plans are in place to uplift the sport here.
The president indicated that he attended a referee’s seminar and a Judo training camp as well as the Caribbean Judo Confederation (CJC) ordinary congress; all in Barbados. The CJC is currently working diligently for the inclusion of Judo in the CARIFTA Games in the 2017.
Archer has expressed gratitude to the GOA, Khan’s Auto Sale, Bettencourt Diner, Sankar’s Auto Sales, John Fernandes, Mr. Jarvis of the Ministry of Agriculture, LIAT and the executive members of the GJA.
