Bulls unbeaten with 57-52 victory against Royals, Flames light up Falcons 71-48
The back court duo of Keifer Tappin and Terron Welch piloted the way for the Half Mile Bulls, who overcame the Victory Valley Royals 57-52 as both sides rallied throughout the encounter to produce another tense game as Harold Adams once again proved to be the highlight of the losing Royals with 29 game high points, when the Malta Supreme Open Christmas basketball championship organised by the Linden Amateur Basketball Association continued on Friday at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court.
In the supporting game between two sides seeking their first win, Block 22 Flames handed the Bankers Trust Falcons a 71-48 beating.
The second game was a fierce engagement as the scores went back and forth as the sides battled throughout at a frenetic pace.
The Royals had taken a14-12 lead when the first quarter was concluded but the scores would be even, 26-26 at lemon time but the Bulls would take the lead when the third quarter ended 41-39. The game was far from over and the Royals did level the scores at 47 and go ahead 48-47, through two free throws made by their national forward Harold Adams who would eventually net 29 points.
Then Keifer Tappin, would hurt his former side with one from three point territory as they regained the lead 50-48 with 3 mins 25 secs to go, but when Adams scored in the paint it was a 50-50 game with just over two minutes left.
However, Tappin took another big shot that connected from beyond the arc and another break away play by Welch pushed them to a 55-50 lead and they closed out the Royals with a 57-52 final winning score. Tappin had 17 points and Welch 16 to be the best players for the Bulls as Michael turner and Dennis Niles each got six points, while for the Royals Adams, who had a tournament high 34 in his previous game, nudged in 29 in this game as teammate Alwyn Rodney got nine.
The first game produced a win by the Flames over their opponents Falcons 71-48 with Selwyn Henry getting 23 points, Rawle Williams 11 and Keith Sullivan 10. For the Falcons Thornton Wilson contributed 13 points and Lawrence Simon nine.
