Young Warriors Cricket Club score double wins to move to semifinals
Betsy Ground also record victory
Consistent batting by Berbice youth batsman Alex Algoo, led Young Warriors Cricket Club from Cumberland East Canje Berbice to two victories over the weekend, thus a place in the semifinal of The Ramnarine Appiah (Brother Appiah) Memorial twenty over cricket competition for second division teams in the East Canje/Lower East Coast, Berbice area.
Both matches were played at the Cumberland and below are the summarized scores: At 9:30AM, the home team won the toss against Seawell and took first strike. They made 142 for 6 off 20 overs. National under-17 all rounder Kevin Sinclair top scored with 52 consisting of 6 classy fours and another Berbice youth player Alex Algoo 31 with 3×4 and 1 x6. Seawell replied with 129 for 5 when their overs expired. A. Ramroop made a fighting 75 with 8×4 and 3×6 and N Singh supported with 23. Bowling for YWCC, Sinclair returned to take 2 for 16 and President’s Eleven under-15 all rounder Aaron Beharry 2 for 26.
In game number two from 1:30PM, No 7 won the toss and batted first making only 97 for 6 off their reduced quota of 15 overs. L. Chaitram with 26 offered the only resistance. Zaheer Moakhan took 2 for 14 and Balram Samaroo 2 for 17. The home team won comfortably ending on 97 for 2 off 11.2 overs. Alex Algoo was again among the runs scoring 45 not out with 5 x 4 and Mortimer Fraser returned to form with 41 consisting of 2×6 and 2×4. Left arm spinner Raymond Mohamed took 2 for 25.
Over at Goed Bananen Land, Canefield Sports Club batting first against Betsy Ground, scored a challenging 156 for 6 off their allotted 20 overs. Leon Sunthgolam made 68 n o with 7×4 and 3×6. Krishan Doerga took 3 for 12 and Davendra Ramoutar 2 for 22. In reply, Betsy Ground Triple Star raced to 157 for 2 off 14.2 overs. Rommel Bassant plundered the bowling attack scoring 84 not out with 9×4 and 4×6. R. Jugisteer supported with 24.
