Dear Editor,
There is an old saying “The past is the past” and bygones must be bygones; similarly there is a notion that one who sacrifices their credibility for political loyalty and rewards is bound to have regrets, not so for some at NCN or The Guyana Chronicle.
There are a number of Broadcasters who sinned their souls by supporting PPP policies of wanton discrimination and character assassination during the rule of the last administration.
With a new Government in place, one would have expected that some of these individuals would have been weeded out or demoted, but guess what, neither has happened, instead some have been promoted and others rewarded with an increase in salary.
A case in point is the retention of the current host of the NCN Radio morning show whose voice was behind a notorious PPP propaganda advertisement. This individual also hosted a pre-election show on NCN Television which was extremely biased and inciting.
Many Broadcasters who never crossed the line and kept their credibility intact have been either forgotten or sidelined by this new administration.
A similar situation prevails at the Guyana Chronicle where people who displayed the same sordid behavior have been given a free ride.
It appears that The Minister who is charged with the responsibilities of overseeing these state entities has let sentiment get the better of him by his gross inaction.
He refused to replace a certain individual who offered his resignation, I guess because of his guilty conscience.
The Minister’s reason given for this individual’s retention is the belief that he can do better.
Can you believe this!
It is no secret that many persons in key positions were given house lots and assisted with finances to build their own homes, so I guess many felt obligated to obey the PPP wishes even if it meant losing respect and credibility.
It is clear for all to see that this Government has become complacent and neglectful in its duties and responsibilities of restructuring and strengthening the state media.
