The Queenstown based Demerara Cricket Club will host The Young Warriors Cricket Club of Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice in a friendly T20 game on the evening of Saturday, October 3rd, 2015. The match will be sponsored by popular softball player and businessman, Ricky Deonarine of 4R Bearings.
The last time these two teams met was a long while ago in a Neal Massy Forty Over National Final at the Providence Stadium with Young Warriors emerging winners. Both teams are very talented and it is certain that DCC will want to avenge that lost.
The East Canje team will be boosted by the return of former West Indies under-19 and former senior Guyana batsman Gajanand Singh who is back in the country with the hope of returning to the national senior team. Since his return, his class has rubbed off on the other players. He will be supported by arguably the best young batsman in the Caribbean, West Indies Under-19 and Senior National opener Shimron Hetmyer.
Other batsmen of worth is Shimron’s elder brother, Seon who represented Guyana at the under-19 level and has a hundred under his belt, former Berbice Senior Opener Maxie DeJonge who scored a century against Essequibo at Bourda, former youth players Kevin Ramdeen, Linden Austin and Kassim Khan, Waheid Edwards and Sasenarine Sukhdeo. Attacking wicketkeeper batsman Ishwar Singh is capable of tearing any bowling apart on his day.
The bowling will be led by pacers Suresh Dhanai and Royden Phil with support from medium pacer Seon Hetmyer. The loaded spin based attack will be led by Ramdeen, Austin, Khan and Gajanand Singh.
While the DCC team is not yet named, players such as West Indies T20 player Christopher Barnwell, National Senior Opener Trevon Griffith and Senior National Pacer Paul Wintz will be on show.
The Young Warriors team will come from: Shimron Hetmyer, Maxie DeJonge, Waheid Edwards, Kevin Ramdeen, Gajanand Singh, Seon Hetmyer, Ishwar Singh, Sasenarine Sukdeo,
Linden Austin, Kassim Khan, Suresh Dhanai, Vishal Mahabir, Alex Algoo, Ameer Khan, Royden Phil and Shan Sattaur. Coach is Hubern Evans, Assistant Coach Kwesi Maltay and Manager Sahadeo Singh.
The game starts at 6:00PM.
