Banks DIH Limited under its GT Beer brand yesterday confirmed its support for the upcoming Petra Organisation Futsal Competition which will be staged from August 19- September 13 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The Launch, which was conducted in the Boardroom of Banks DIH Limited at Thirst Park, saw in attendance Beer Executive Brian Choo-Hen, Beers Manager Geoff Clement, Company Communications Manager Troy Peters and Petra Organisation Co-Director Troy Mendonca.
The event will feature 16 teams competing in an initial group stage format with teams divided into four groups with the top two finishers in each group progressing to the knockout phase.
The competing teams are: Broad Street, Sophia, North Ruimveldt, West Back Road, Bent Street, Sparta Boss, Globe Yard, Alexander Village, Ballerz, Queen Street Tiger bay, West Front Road, Albouystown, Festival City, Showstoppers, Agricola and Beterverwagting (BV).
Group-A will comprise of Agricola, Queen Street Tigerbay, Leopold Street and Kitty Weavers, while group-B will consist of Albouystown, Sparta Boss, Alexander Village and Globe Yard. Group-C will comprise West Front Road, Show Stoppers, Sophia and Broad Street while group-D will feature the likes of Bent Street, North Ruimveldt, West Back Road and BV.
Winner of the tournament will collect $500,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place finishers will collect $250,000, $125,000 and $75,000 and the correspondingly accolade.
Tournament Coordinator Troy Mendonca during an invited comment said, “Petra is once again pleased to collaborate with Banks to organise another event of football among the neighborhood wards.”
According to Mendonca, “This relationship stems over nine years and the wards have demonstrated camaraderie among themselves and we are proud to bring another edition of street football. Once again the Petra Organization thanks Banks DIH for collaborating with us in this next venture.”
Cho-Hen in his remarks said, “Banks is indeed happy to be associated with sponsorship of the tournament,” adding, “This is yet another demonstration of the Banks DIH and GT Beers; commitment to sports in our beautiful country Guyana.”
He further stated that, “We look forward to an exciting tournament and we thank the Petra Organization for organising such a tournament.” “We also look forward to the fans support for the respective teams and make the event exciting and fun.”
