Thirty-year-old Mark Bruce aka “Gullyside,” of Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, was remanded on Wednesday when he appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan on a wounding charge.
Particulars of the charge stated that on July 6, at Brickdam, Bruce unlawfully and maliciously wounded Leslie De Cameron with intent to maim him and cause actual bodily harm.
During the brief court hearing, Magistrate McLennan asked the defendant what he had to say for himself. Bruce told the court that he has a mental certificate and he is “from the Gullyside where it’s life over death. Jah guide I from bad mind and better days”.
Police Prosecutor Corporal Deniro Jones explained that on the day in question, the defendant jumped over a fence at the premises of the virtual complainant (De Cameron) and broke into his house.
Jones declared that De Cameron, who was home at the time, was chopped to his toe by Bruce when he tried to ward him off.
The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant has no fixed place of abode and is a prospective flight risk.
Bail was refused and Bruce will make his next appearance on Monday, July 13.
In another case, a man was yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Alex Moore for assaulting a female Constable.
It was alleged that Tiffone Beckley, 23, on Tuesday, last, at Stabroek Bazaar, made use of indecent language towards Constable #1851 Tiffinee Moore.
Beckley pleaded guilty to the charge after it was read to him.
Police Prosecutor Simmons did not relate any facts to the court neither did she object to bail.
The defendant was asked to make $20,000 compensation on or before July 14.
Magistrate Alex Moore issued a strict warning while giving Beckley the penalty. Magistrate Moore told the defendant that a degree of maturity is expected of him considering his age, and thinking before he acts seems to be a weak point of his.
