(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh de whole country behaving like one big cricket match where everybody watching de scoreboard but nobody asking who write de rules. Years now de oil contract scandal done burst out like overripe coconut, and all dem big companies and private sector organisations still get lockjaw. Silence sweet like cane juice but it sweet suspiciously.
Dem boys seh dem looking left, dem looking right, dem looking up to de sky like rain go fall answers. Not a single press release, not a single bold statement, not even one “we concerned about transparency” whisper from de usual chambers and associations. Is like everybody forget dem gat voice. Or maybe dem voice gone on annual leave.
But dem boys seh here is de real joke. Some of dem same companies and private sector fellas dem enjoying de boom right now. Contracts expanding, money circulating, new offices opening, trucks rolling. Dem smiling because everything sweet-sweet.
Yet nobody stop for ask one simple question: if de contract had been better negotiated, if Guyana had been getting a bigger slice of de pie, would all of us not be swimming in even more opportunities? More infrastructure, more contracts, more demand, more spin-off business, more people eating a bigger slice instead of licking crumbs off de table?
Dem boys seh is like man sitting in one restaurant eating half plate and praising chef, while outside de kitchen burning down and nobody fixing de stove. Because de truth is, if de nation had negotiated better, even dem private sector boys would be selling more, hiring more, expanding more. But silence easier when profits already flowing.
Dem boys seh maybe is fear, maybe is comfort, maybe is de sweet smell of present gain drowning out future logic. But history does not forget silence. And economics does not reward missed opportunity just because it come with short-term comfort.
So dem boys seh while de scandal rolling like barrel downhill, de question still hanging in de air like wet laundry: when de pie was being divided, who really sharpen de knife, who determine the size of the slice, and who just happy to lick de plate?
Talk half. Leff half.
