Finalists decided in Hilbert ‘Old Beef’ Humphrey schools U-15 football competition
Underdogs Vryman’s Erven Secondary (VESS) Canje Secondary School (CSS) are through to the final of the annual Hilbert ‘Old Beef’ Humphrey Inter School football competition being played at the All Saints Scott School ground in New Amsterdam.
The lads from VESS recorded a 2-0 win over New Amsterdam Multilateral School (NAMS) with VESS goal coming through a defence error and a Gevonanie Rover strike.
The CSS team then booked their place in the final by getting the better of Tutorial Academy Secondary (TASS) by a 1-0 margin.
The winner and runner up teams will be presented with trophies and medals, while outstanding individual players including the most valuable player, top goal scorer and best goalkeeper will be presented with awards.
The Late ‘Beef’ Humphrey was an ardent sports fan with several of his children representing Berbice at football and other sports. Some are still actively involved in promoting the further development of the sport in Berbice.
The tournament is organized by Hearts of Oak Masters football Club and coordinated by former national player Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey.
