A school teacher, who allegedly took it upon herself to steal her friend’s ATM card and withdraw her money, was brought before the court yesterday to answer to two charges.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, read the charge to Patricia Sobers, 28, of First Street, Industry, East Coast Demerara. Particulars of the first charge stated that on December 28, 2014 at Georgetown, she stole $20,000, property of Delecia Hall.
It was further alleged that on the same day she stole $30,000, property of the said Hall.
According to the prosecution’s facts, the victim and the defendant are known to each other. On the day in question the defendant stole the victim’s bank card and went to Scotia Bank on two occasions and withdrew the money.
A report was made by the victim to Scotia Bank and the institution’s camera footage was reviewed. Security footage from the bank showed the defendant withdrawing the money on both occasions.
Since the prosecution had no objection to bail, it was granted in the sum of $25,000.
Sobers will return to court on June 2.
