Moments after the culmination of the signing ceremony, the principals of the card joined GBBC President, Peter Abdool, for a photo op.
It’s official; Clive Atwell arrived at Abdool and Abdools, the Avenue of the Republic office of President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC), Peter Abdool and affixed his signature to the contract, an official indication that his bout for the junior/welterweight Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) title bout against Jamaica 2014 Contender champion, Sakima Mullings is on. Kaieteur News was also furnished with a photograph of Mullings signing the dotted lines from his base in Jamaica.
Much had been said as the pundits debated on a possible fight between these two pugilists but the promoters were unable to bring them together for a variety of reasons; Atwell was busy preparing for his world title bout against Mexican, Johnny Gonsalves, while Mullings got ready for the Contender series in Jamaica.
In the meantime the debate as to who was the better boxer, raged. The two boxers were brought together by fate after Mullings original opponent, Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis incurred an injury while preparing for the fight and Atwell was drafted in.
Those two were not the only boxers signing the dotted lines; super/middleweight champion, Dereck Richmond and middleweight CABOFE champion, Edmond DeClou, also signed their contracts and were full of mouth and threats of their intentions. A more in depth report appears in tomorrow’s edition.
The other boxers on the card also signed their contracts, all except Barbados based Guyanese, Charwyn Estwick who tackles Travis Fraser in a 4 rounds jnr/middleweight bout.
Quincy Gomes will match gloves with debutant, Keeve Allicock in a lightweight 4 rounder, while Mark Austin will duke it out with Dexter Gonsalves in a jnr/welterweight non-title 8 rounds affair.
Admission is $3000 for a ringside seat and half that amount for the stand. Action time is 20:00hrs.
