there were persons still inside, and threatened to burn it, a city court heard yesterday.
Noel Steve Rampersaud, 34, was convicted and jailed for six months by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a threatening behaviour charge.
Rampersaud, the court heard, had become annoyed after Tyron Ally spoke to him about a matter currently under investigation.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Michael Grant, reported that the defendant became annoyed and doused the man’s house, located at Arima in the Upper Berbice River, with the flammable liquid and threatened to burn it. The court heard that at the time, there were people in the house. The matter was reported to the police and he was arrested and charged. In court, Rampersaud pleaded guilty. He said too that he was charged last year for carnal knowledge.
The Chief Magistrate, in handing down her verdict, considered that he had pleaded guilty and had not wasted the court’s time.
