Two men were remanded to prison when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya-Sewnarine Beharry on Friday

to address the charge of robbery under arms at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that Samuel Duncan and Kevin Braxton, armed with dangerous weapons, robbed Navindra Sarwan of $18,000 and a blackberry cellular phone valued 40,000 on October 30, 2014.
Police Prosecuter Michael Grant said that on the day in question around 23:30 hours, Sarwan was walking along Camp Street when he was approached by the two defendants on a bicycle. Duncan allegedly had an icepick and Braxton a screwdriver, and both dealt several stabs to Sarwan before relieving him of his articles. Sarwan was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Co-operation (GPHC) by public spirited citizens. Acting on information received, the defendants were arrested and charged. The virtual complainant is still hospitalized in a stable condition.
Samuel Duncan is a poultry farmer and construction worker. He is not married but has two children. Duncan pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Kevin Braxton is only nineteen years old and is employed as a seaman, and has pending matters of a similar nature in court.
Prosecutor Grant objected to bail based on the seriousness and gravity of the offence as well as the fact that someone was stabbed and injured during the robbery.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry objected to bail and ordered statements. The defendants who were unrepresented were remanded to prison until November 18.
