All Saints Primary wins Primary Segment
New Amsterdam Multilateral School (NAMS) are poised to win the New Amsterdam/Canje Branch (District 16) of Guyana Teachers Union annual track, field cycling a swimming championship. With only the swimming competition still to be completed, NAMS are way out in front. In fact NAMS are expected to dominate proceeding when the swimming competitions are held.
At the end of The Track and field segment which concluded on Friday at the Rose Community Centre Ground in East Canje, NAMS was out in front with 754. They were followed by Tutorial Academy Secondary School (TASS) 706, Berbice High School (BHS) in third with 400, followed by New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) on 381, Vryman’s Erven Secondary (VESS) next with 377, Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) 362, Canje Secondary (CSS) 243 and School of the Nations (SON) 162.
The outstanding performers during the day were Ryan Bumble of NAMS with victory in the U18 boys’ triple jump, 100 and 200 meters.
Donella Joe of TASS won the U18 girls high jump, triple jump, 100 and 200 meters.
Kareem Samuels of BHS won the boys U14 100M and 200M races along with the long jump events. Tyrell Peters of TASS took top honours in the 100 and 200 meters U-16 boys’ events. Allia Elexey of NAMS was in winners’ row in the U-14 girls’ triple jump and 100 meters races, while placing second in the long jump.
Olucho Haynes of NAMS competing in the Girls U18 category, won the girls 800 meters whilst placing second on the 1,500 meters event.
Destheney Lewis of TASS rode away with the Girls U14 3,000 and 800 meters cycle races while placing second in the 1,500 and 800 meters events.
Devas Samlall of BEI won the U18 boys 400 meters while placing third in the 100 and 200 meters races.
Meanwhile, the Primary aspects of the sports which were held on Wednesday and Thursday at the All Saints and the Esplanade Park respectively grounds saw All Saints Primary winning.
At the end of the two days of events, All Saints Primary was way ahead on 203 followed by St. Therese’s on 115, St. Aloysius with 78, School of the Nation 63 and Lochaber Primary trailing with 34 points. (Samuel Whyte)
