More than seven weeks after cancelling Dynamic Airways flights between New York and Georgetown, US authorities have cleared the way for operations to resume.
In a statement yesterday, Dynamic said that the US Department of Transportation (DOT), had granted approvals and that flights could resume as early as next month.
According to Bill Gray, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the North Carolina-based outfit, the approvals will allow flights to a number of destinations also in South America.
“The airline is planning to resume regular flights between New York and Georgetown, Guyana late next month, as well as inaugurate services between Orlando and destinations in Brazil, Canada, and US,” Gray said in the statement.
“Our flights to Georgetown this summer revealed a tremendous need for reliable, quality air service. Since that time, Dynamic has undergone a substantial internal reorganization with new management and a new focus on its product and service. Starting late November, Guyana will now enjoy the comfort and quality air service that this Caribbean nation deserves.”
The Georgetown/New York route is a crucial one for Guyanese with many families living in latter area.
However, Guyana has been struggling to attract carriers that stay for long.
Several charters have folded, with Travelspan recently pulling out of the route after a falling out with its operator.
Dynamic Airways had entered the Guyana with huge fanfare but left on August 8th after unable to operate out of the JFK Airport, New York.
Passengers’ complaints of being taken to another state and driven for hours back to New York.
Roraima Airways had been conducting the local handling logistics.
The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) had said that Dynamic Airways announced that it would be suspending services and hopes to restart later in the year. Director General of the GCAA, Zulficar Mohamed, told Kaieteur News that the company is conducting chartered flights.
Guyana would want the return of more seats as only two operators are currently on the New York/Georgetown flights…Fly Jamaica and Caribbean Airlines.
There are fears over the price of tickets going up.
