when the preliminary inquiry commences in three weeks’ time.
On Wednesday, Magistrate Zamena Ali, presiding at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court, set October 22 as the date to commence the preliminary inquiry (PI ) into Bharrat’s murder for which his wife’s lover, Errol Khan, stands accused.
It was Khan’s second court appearance.
Khan had made his initial appearance on September 8 at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, a few days after he was held by police for the May 2nd 2014 murder of the fisherman.
At Wednesday’s hearing, police prosecutor Corporal Sherlock King presented the report on the matter to the court, as Khan, who is still to retain an attorney, stood in the prisoners’ docks.
Scores of relatives of the murdered fisherman were again present at the hearing and they exchanged angry glances with the accused.
Khan, who is also known as Veenood Maraj, of Blossom Scheme, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, was captured on September 5, last, at the Stabroek Market, after eluding police for more than four months.
It is alleged that on Friday, May 2nd, Khan murdered Chetram while he was asleep with his wife, Lomattie Ramdat, at

his Haslington New Scheme house. Khan is also charged with wounding the woman with intent to maim and disfigure her.
Initially, the matter was reported by Ramdat as a bandit attack, but she later changed her story and implicated Khan.
At the previous court hearing Khan had expressed surprise that he alone was charged for Bharrat’s murder. “Why me alone get charge? “This can’t be; the woman was involved…she murder de man,”” he expressed loudly.
