Golden Jaguar Pernell Schultz has scored again in the TT Pro League. His second goal in two outings as a starter for Caledonia AIA, young Schultz scored in Caledonia’s 2-1 loss to Point Fortin Civic Center on Tuesday night.
The diminutive Schultz dribbled two Civic defenders before lashing a powerful shot past Trinidad and Tobago National team goalkeeper Marvin Phillip, which gave Caledonia a temporary 1- nil lead in the 4th minute of the match.
He had two other chances saved in the match but his exploits are now attracting the attention of other teams and players.
Speaking to Kaieteur Sport on Schultz’ development during his one and a half years in Caledonia AIA, veteran Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Densill Theobald stated.
“Pernell is a good technical player and he is developing nicely in the club (Caledonia) and in the TT Pro League. Scoring those two goals in his two starts for the first team is the ideal way to show the Gaffer (Jamaal Shabazz) that he is ready.
The 30 year-old Theobald who has played in Scotland, Poland and India has taken Schultz and several other young Caledonia players under his wing and sees room for improvement in the talented young Guyanese striker.
“I would like to see Pernell dedicate some time to becoming stronger so that he can better hold off defenders.
“His decision making around the box needs to improve I want to see him take responsibility to shoot some more and step up and become a player who can deliver in big games.
Pernell has accepted Theobald ‘s challenge and hinted of a new approach going forward.
“When I first came to Caledonia I was afraid of weight training. Now I recognize the importance of it and in the offseason I intend to join the gym, stated Schultz.
Schultz is due to return to Guyana by the end of the month and he plans to keep active so that he can return to Caledonia fit for pr season training.
“I want to come home and play with my home team Conquerors and keep myself in shape.
“I feel good scoring and having my teammates see me as someone who can contribute to the team, rather than just a little kid who the team is trying to help out, he added.
