Guyana Foundation distributes Solar-powered light kits at Breezy Point
Over the past weekend, a team from the Guyana Foundation visited ‘Breezy Point’ where solar-powered light kits were donated to needy families in the area.

Breezy Point is a village situated on the bank of a GuySuco canal, between Brusche Dam and Coldingen Dam, East Coast of Demerara. This village is accessed over makeshift bridges built by residents from scrap wood. There is no running water in the community and no electricity. Many of the children and elderly live in very poor conditions.
The Guyana Foundation started working in the village several months ago, donating solar-powered light kits to needy families in the area. During this recent trip, the entity completed the distribution of light kits to every home in the area.
According to residents, the light kits have been most useful. They have enabled school children to study after dark. Also, since the light receptacles are portable, residents are able to use them to cross the bridges at night, to use outdoor toilet facilities, and much more.
To commemorate International Women’s Day, the Guyana Foundation team also visited some of the elderly ladies in the community – like Miss Emelda who is 73 years old. She has twenty children, fifty-six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Miss Emelda, whose life has been stricken by poverty and ill-health, still managed to welcome and thank the Guyana Foundation team for the gifts brought to her community.
