Dear Editor,
I refer to Mr. Bisram’s letter in KN of Jan. 7th titled: “ Persaud’s charges against Bisram disproved”. Mr. Bisram wrote: “The charge of Mr. Mike Persaud’s ‘Bisram’s falsely attributed “kaka or looney talk” (KN Jan 1st) has been disproved by eminent Prof. Stanley Aronowitz.”
I urge the editor of KN to reread Bisram’s letter and please point out to me how and where the charge has been disproved. Did Mr. Bisram provide the citation for the quote? (Never mind the context and relevancy of the quote – and whether Prof. Aronowitz had ever published anything calling for strictest possible ethnic voting for ethnic parties, which is the central issue of this debate and what Mr. Bisram is advocating for Guyana).
Attached to this letter are two emails from Prof. Stanley Aronowitz dated Dec 23rd and 24th in which he wrote: “No. Never in my writings”, replying to my query as to whether he had ever used the quote attributed to him by Mr. Bisram. To the question whether he knew Mr. Bisram as a student he wrote “Not that I am aware of”. It is now obvious that his memory of Mr. Bisram had failed him.
Editor, I implore you Sir, to read these attached emails and to please acknowledge receipt of them in an editorial note.
Mr. Bisram likes to clothe himself in the armor of an academic, but it is very un-academic and unethical to make up quotes and attribute them to distinguished professors. Mike Persaud
