After five months, Delon Glasgow who was indicted for the August 2013 murder of Jules Walker was committed to stand trial in the High Court by the Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry as the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the court case concluded yesterday.
The charge which was laid against him claims that between August 10 and 11, 2013 Glasgow murdered Walker, 33, of Lot 7 Ogle Front, East Coast Demerara.
Reports are that Walker was last seen in the company of the accused on August 10, 2013. The following day, Walker’s body was seen floating near the koker at Princes and High Streets, Georgetown. The corpse bore several marks of violence and as a result of investigations conducted, Glasgow, 18, of Lot East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, was taken into police custody after the body was fished out of the koker.
Subsequent investigations led to him being charged with the offence.
Walker was missing a few days before residents of Charlestown, first spotted a corpse floating in the Princes Street canal. Heavy rainfall and strong currents pushed the body further to a koker that facilitates drainage into the Demerara River.
Yesterday, at Glasgow’s final hearing at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, the Chief Magistrate ruled that the Prosecution had established a prima facie case of murder against the accused. She instructed that it is now the prosecution’s responsibility to prove their case against Glasgow.
When presented with the chance to testify in the witness’ box, provide an unsworn statement from the prisoner’s docks or remain silent, the accused opted for the latter. Attorney at Law Patrice Henry whom the court had asked to appear amicus, informed the court that Walcott will reserve his witnesses for the proceedings at the High Court.
The Chief Magistrate instructed that his trial is set to commence in April and further advised that when the matter is listed, the Court Registrar will contact Glasgow.
