Top Junior Player Afruica Gentle showed why she is a force to be reckoned with when she stormed into the girl’s 14’s final with a resounding 6-2, 6-0 thrashing of unseeded Trinidadian Candace Cook on Tuesday, at the Grass Roots Tennis Club in Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The 12 year old will now play number two seed and home favourite Amarlia Benn. Young Jordan Beaton also kept the Golden Arrow Head flying high when he blanked Miguel Francis 4-0, 4-0 to progress to the final of the boys 14’s consolation tournament.
Meanwhile, other Guyanese were sent crashing out of the tournament, Kalyca Fraser, Keenan Persaud, Mark McDonald and Nicola Ramdyhan all exited.
Kalyca Fraser playing in the girls 14’s consolation went down in straight sets 4-0, 4-1 to Shania William. Keenan Persaud loss in his opening encounter in the Boy’s 14’s consolation, he lost that matchup in straight sets to Justin Marcano 4-0, 5-3 and Richard Hoyte defeated Guyanese Mark McDonald 4-0, 4-1.
Lone Guyanese hopeful in the girls 18’s, Nicola Ramdyhan was comprehensively beaten in her second round encounter, receiving a pair of bagels 6-0, 6-0 to Canadian eight seed Jade Hilton.
In doubles action, Mark McDonald and Keenan Persaud lost to Vincentian duo of Alexander Cyrus and Ronald Hoyte 6-2, 6-2, while their counterparts Jordan Beaton and Keshon Reece hammered Miguel Francis and Justin Marcano 6-2, 6-0 to progress to the semi- finals.
