K&B Mining and Hardware Supplies yesterday renewed its sponsorship of the upcoming Boyce & Jefford Track and Field Classic IV, which will be held at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary (Heats) on August 17 and August 18 (Finals) at MSC Ground, Linden.
The Mining Company revealed its support of the prestigious meet for the fourth consecutive year with Accountant, Seeta Husain on behalf of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Hema Persaud, stating that it is an honour to continue funding the competition.
“It’s our pleasure to support this event; we have watched it grow from
the beginning, and we are in full support of this event. We are proud to be a part of something that is continuing to develop local athletes and the community of Linden,” Husain said.
Husain indicated that their investment in the event is an enduring one that began with the vision to have a benchmark event for athletics, according to the organisers. She said that support for the event will continue from K&B Mining in the future.
Competitions Director on the Management Committee for the Boyce & Jefford Track and Field Classic IV, Mark Scott, committed to ensuring that K&B Mining continues to get value for their unyielding contributions since the event’s inauguration four years ago.
Scott thanked the CEO for sharing a vision that continues to manifest in the impressive growth of the event. He revealed that so serious is the nature of the Classic that two workshops for officials will be held to apprise them of the rules and standards required.
“We’re extremely grateful for your support of this event. We will continue to have an impressive meet that you can always be proud to be apart,” Scott said, adding that the meet will continue to raise the bar for athletes and athletics in Guyana.
“When you look around, you had every other major sport in Guyana with a signature event with lucrative cash prizes, but none for athletics; the founders, Mr. (Colin) Boyce and Mr. (Edison) Jefford wanted to change that with this meet,” Scott explained.
Scott, an athletics Coach and trained teacher with tons of experience at the competitions level, is of the view that the time had come to have a forum where the ‘best of the best’ in local athletics was decided. The Classic will be officially launched at 11am on Friday.
