U-17 team to be renamed in Naeem Nasir’s memory
Guyana’s largest Bakery, Bakewell has for the 14th successive year, maintained its cricket sponsorship of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Under-17 and Second Division cricket teams.
The sponsorship for this year is worth $200,000 and covers the cost of balls, transportation and snacks for the two teams.

held on Friday last at Bakewell’s Head Office, Triumph Village, ECD, stated that the company first came on board with the club in 2000 and over the years the relationship has been very successful with both the Rose Hall Town Bakewell Second Division and Under-17 teams winning the Berbice championship on multiple occasions.
The two teams are also currently the champions at their levels in the Ancient County. Foster disclosed that players the likes of West Indies Test player Assad Fudadin, ODI player Royston Crandon, Esuan Crandon, Renwick Batson, Delbert Hicks, Dominic Rikhi, Eon Hooper, Khemraj Mahadeo, Shailendra Shameer, Shawn Perreira, Lloydel Lewis; West Indies female players Shemaine Campbell and Erva Giddings are all products of Bakewell’s sponsorship over the years.
The teams also completed a combined 540 personal development programmes under the sponsorship in the areas of charity, education, anti-drugs, youth and community development.
The RHTY&SC, Foster stated, is very grateful for the role Bakewell has been playing in the development of the club, describing the popular Bakery as one of the main ingredients that has aided their development as Guyana’s best.
The CEO announced that the club’s Under 17 team would be renamed – The RHT Naeem Nasir Under-17 Team in honour of the late Bakewell founder who passed away last year.
Bakewell’s General Manager, Rajin Ganga in handing over the cheque described the RHTY&SC as a role model organization that his company was pleased to be associated with.
He stated that the Bakewell Second Division and Under-17 teams have over the years made his company very proud with their positive attitudes on and off the field including the many developmental programmes they have embarked on and completed over the years.
He urged the club members to maintain the standard for excellence and to strive for greater success in the future.
Apart from the cricket sponsorship, Bakewell also co-sponsors the club’s annual charity programmes, annual review magazine, awards ceremony, cricket academy and pro-education campaign.
