The Trophy Stall chess tournament began on Sunday at the KEISHAR’S Sports Club with a predominance of junior players including National junior champion Suhai Feng Su and former champion Cecil Cox. A sprinkle of senior players are participating, among them Taffin Khan, National senior champion.
The annual competition began during the persistent rainfall in the city and only the first round was completed. Senior champion Taffin Khan, with the white pieces, faced off former champion Cecil Cox. Khan started his game with the Reti Opening and Cox soon encountered difficulties. He committed a series of blunders which also resulted in the loss f his queen. Cox was forced to resign.
Eight players, including Khan and junior champion Suhai Feng won their first round matches and two secured draws. Seven players recorded losses. The tournament concludes next weekend.
