– over $7M in prizes available
If the first planned horseracing event for the 2012/2013 racing season is anything to go by, then horseracing fans in Guyana are definitely in for a treat. With most of the race tracks already submitting their programmes for the year the forecast looks good and an action pack year of racing is anticipated.
The Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club at NO6 West Coast Berbice starts the ball rolling for this season with a whopping $7M eight event horserace meet, slated for the Clubs track at No6 West Coast Berbice on Sunday January 29 compliments of the Winners Circle Pool Hall and Bar and Rommel Jagroop and Sons Construction Company.
With that kind of money on offer, most of the stables and owners are quickly getting themselves and animals in shape after the out of season period. With just over one week remaining for race day entries are pouring in with over 50 already entered.
The feature B class event has already posted an impressive lineup with over $2.3M and trophy in winnings available for the outstanding participants. The likes of The Message, Jet Set Go, Grande De Roja, Donut Prince, Who is on the Case, Who So Ever, Wad Luck, Miss Orientate and Zelick are among those taking early entry. The winner will race away with $1.2M and trophy over 1600M.
The battle is expected to continue in the Three Years old Guyana and West Indies Bred race where Settle in Seattle, Serenity, Red Cloud and Time for a change among other are expected to settle some old scores. The winner will collect $500,000 over 1200M, which is the distance for all the other races.
The newly introduced 4 year old event, which is expected to be run for the first time, is expected to be a scorcher with those animals that formerly competes in the three year old division set to compete. The lineup is an impressive one and includes the likes of Technology, Better than Gold, Captain Crook, Swing Easy, Work Force, Damascus Dream, Bridal Stone Corner, Face the Fire, Big Impact and Sabrina’s Joy among the lot as they go for the winning purse of $400,000 and trophy.
There is the three year old event for Guyana Bred and Born horses with a first prize of $300,000. I want Revenge and Watch My Shadow are expected to continue their duel.
The E and Lower match-up for a first prize of $400,000 should see Horses such as Marathon man, Night Crescendo, De Clever cat, Who So ever, Fresh Again, Home Bush Baby, Dubai Duchess, Majestic, Miss Karina and Face the Music set to compete.
The rest of the events on the day’s card are the G class gallop for $300,000. While there are events for s for ‘I’ and lower animals and the Division 1, 2 and 3 animals with the top prize being $200,000 and $150,000 respectively.
The top individual performers including top Jockey and stable will receive accolades compliments of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market. Some of the other sponsors already on board are Banks DIH Limited, Trophy Stall Bourda Market, Shariff Racing Stable and Jumbo Jet Auto Sales.
