team at the GCC ground yesterday morning shortly before they departed for the Cheddi Jagan International Airport to travel to Antigua to participate in the WICB T20 Tournament which opens on Monday.
The squad which was beset with preparatory difficulties due to the current standoff between the Government set up IMC which is led by former WI Captain Clive Lloyd and the recognised GCB left at mid-day to compete in the regional competition under the leadership of Captain Christopher Barnwell.
Ali speaking to the team urged them not to get preoccupied with the impasse between the two factions and called on them to concentrate on playing good solid cricket that will ensure that they produce a good performance and make Guyana proud.
Barnwell had earlier disclosed how proud the players are to be representing Guyana and promised to produce good performances.
The full squad reads: Christopher Barnwell (Captain), Veerasammy Permaul (Vice-captain), Devendra Bishoo, Derwin Christian (Wicket-keeper), Trevon Griffith, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Narsingh Deonarine, Royston Crandon, Ronsford Beaton, Leon Johnson, Rajiv Ivan, Steven Jacobs and Dillon Heyliger.
