The highly rated amateur boxer, Imran ‘Magic’ Khan along with Trainer Terrence Poole left Guyana yesterday for Trinidad and Tobago where Khan will fight on a ProAm card arranged in the Twin Island Republic tomorrow.
This is Khan’s third international fight for the year, having competed successfully in the ALBA Games in Venezuela and the Ronald Wilson Memorial tournament in Barbados.
President of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association, Steve Ninvalle, told Kaieteur Sport that Khan will fight against United States based Trinidadian Lawrence Singh. Singh is undefeated to date and Khan will look to continue his trend of impressive performances and defeat the T&T fighter.
Ninvalle informed that they had received an invitation from their T&T counterparts to field a fighter of Khan’s weight class and he was the obvious choice as he continues to prepare on the Road to London Programme. The GABA President said the aim is to keep the boxers including Khan active as they prepare for Olympic qualification. Khan is due to participate in a specialized training programme in Cardiff, Wales early in the New Year with the Olympic Box off to follow in Brazil in March where he will look to cement a place at the London Games.
Khan and Poole will return to Guyana on Saturday.
