Old Fort, Flora GCC and Fatima crowned champions
Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor Hockey Festival
In what could be described as one of the best Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor Hockey Festival to ever be hosted all-round, the curtains came down yesterday, at the National Gymnasium.
Veteran’s Champs: Fatima
In the respective finals, Fatima of Trinidad and Tobago beat Old Old Fort 6-1; Flora GCC defeated Malvern of T& T 4-0 in the Ladies final, while Old Fort finally crossed an important hurdle by squeezing past GCC 2-1 in the Men’s final.
In the Men’s final, Old Fort were led to victory by goals off the sticks of the Simon brothers Askofu and Aderemi, who netted in the 5th and 27th minutes respectively, while Kevin Spencer’s 15th minute equaliser kept the game even for a while.
The Ladies final was dominated by Flora GCC, who got their goals from Trisha Woodroffe (5th, 35th), Kerensa Fernandes (4th) and Gabriella Xavier (30th).
In the Veterans final, on target for the winners were Dean Nieves (15, 36 and 39), Nicholas Wren (6), Colin Young (22) and Desmond Dougall (34), while Dexter Wyles (26) made the lone response for the losers.
