The establishment of an Inter-Religious Television (IRTV) channel dedicated to the broadcasting of religious programmes on a 24-hour basis is within reach with funding made available.
On Friday, President Bharrat Jagdeo met members of the Inter Religious Organisation (IRO) at the Office of the President, where he made the announcement.
According to a government release, Bishop Juan Edghill, a member of the IRO told the Government Information Agency (GINA) that the channel will be up and running within weeks.

Edghill, however, did not disclose the size of the fund but said that efforts are being made to ensure coverage is as expansive as possible.
Since 2005, Jagdeo had promised the establishment of a channel solely for this purpose and in January of this year, the IRO had agreed to the setting up of a board of directors, and had crafted a model to ensure the various bodies had equitable air time.
The IRTV will follow closely on the heels of the Guyana education channel that was launched in April to boost the delivery of education in the country.
