Miles Hendricks XI defeated Lokram Narine XI by 20 runs to capture the Zaheer Mohamed 40 over U-17 cricket title recently at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground in Good Success.
In a match which was reduced to 30 overs due to early morning showers. Hendricks XI batted first and mustered 143-6 in their allotment of overs. Rudolph Brown top scored with 32 (2×4), while Skipper Hendricks supported with 29.
Narendra Persaud, female player Fazeena Hamid and Dave Challittar were the other batters that reached double figures with 17, 15, 13 and 12 respectively. Medium pacer Jumal Hartman (2-22) offspinner Besham Moses (1-17) and leg spinner Bhumeshwar Ramkissoon (1-15) were the wicket takers for Narine XI, who responded with 123 all out in 26 overs.
Narine was their leading run getter with 17, while Hartman assisted with 11 and national female U-19 player Rekha Roopnauth made 10 as extra contributed 32. Offspinner Cleon Venture grabbed 3-20, while Hendricks and Challittar supported with 2 each.
Both teams received prizes, while WICB certified coach, umpire and Kaieteur sport correspondent Zaheer Mohamed told the cricketers to continue training hard and take the game seriously.
